The Wu Shulian Chinese University Ranking, an independent survey, has consistently placed the Schools undergraduate programs in mechanical engineering and automation, power and energy engineering at number one over the past few years; and in 2009, according to the same survey, the Schools undergraduate program  in industrial engineering ranked No. 2 in the country. . The School is ranked the nations best in terms of undergraduate job placement.

         Mechanical engineering and automation (Click for complete course information)

 

It is one of the oldest and most prestigious programs in SJTU aimed to develop creative talents in mechanical design and manufacturing technology and modern control technology. The main courses include: design and manufacture, mechanical andenergy engineering, Information and control, automotive design and manufacturing, robotics, bio-mechanical and electrical engineering and advanced electronics manufacturing.

Objective: to produce engineers with a focus on the following fields:

         Machine manufacturing

         Mechanical Design

         Automotive Engineering

         Mechatronics

         Plastic forming
 

After Graduation

Graduates are in high demand from government agencies and companies (both private and state-owned) in a wide range of industries from manufacturing to, shipbuilding, the oil industry and so on. These companies include such names as General Motors, General Electric, Procter & Gamble and other Fortune 500 companies, as well as Baosteel, Shanghai Electric Power Generation Group, China General Nuclear Power Corporation, China Aerospace Science and Technology Group. Each year more than 2/3 of graduates continue their studies at home or abroad. According to a report by the Shanghai Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau mechanical engineering continues to be a popular professional career choicewith salary levels at the top of 127 jobs monitored.

 

         Power and energy engineering (Click for complete course information)

 

It is one of the oldest and strongest programs in SJTU aimedto cultivate composite, creative talents with thermal, mechanical, electrical integration theory and technology. The main courses include: design and manufacture, mechanical and energy engineering, information and control systems, power machinery equipment principles, internal combustion engine structure and design, refrigeration and cryogenic principles, introduction to renewable energy.

 

Objective: to produce engineers  with a focus on the following fields:


         Turbomachinery

         Vehicle Engine

         Refrigeration and Cryogenic

         Thermal Engineering

After Graduation

There is a wide range of employment opportunities after graduation C the employment supply and demand ratio is 1:12. A large number of graduates find employment in the fields of energy, power, automotive, refrigeration and air conditioning, marine propulsion and other large enterprises as well as government agencies engaged in research, management and development work, such as Carrier, Daikin, Toyota, CSSC, Sinopec, China National Petroleum Company. About 1/4 of the students continue their studies in research

         Industrial engineering (Click for complete course information)

SJTU is the first one in China to set up such a program, combined with the engineering disciplines of engineering and management science. It aims to cultivate composite high-level management talents with solid engineering and technical knowledge and modern management methods.Main courses: Design and manufacturing, management science, engineering, statistics, operations research, production planning and control, quality and reliability engineering, logistics and supply chain.

 

After Graduation

Graduates opportunities are numerous. The employment supply and demand ratio is 1:12. 1/3 of the graduates continue their studies in prestigious universities abroad, 1/3 of the graduates continue their study in SJTU or overseas universities, 1/3 of the graduates go into industry finding employment in companies such as the Shanghai Automobile Group Corporation, Intel Corporation, SMIC as well as financial, logistics or consulting firms and leading companies in the service sector.

         Nuclear science and engineering (Click for complete course information)

It is one of the few earliest programs to cultivate Nuclear Science and technical talents. Theprogram provides training in nuclear engineering and radiation science, nuclear technology applications and other cross-cutting areas of advanced technology and management. The main courses include: design and manufacture, mechanical and thermal radiation measurement and protection, nuclear reactor physics, nuclear reactor thermal hydraulics.

 

 

After Graduation

In the coming decades, China will vigorously develop nuclear power, nuclear science and technology. There is therefore a strong increase in the demand for graduates and the current employment supply and demand ratio is more than 1:40. There is a wide range of employment prospects, and the graduates average salary is the highest of all the programs in ME school. The majority of graduates work in the national research institutes, nuclear power supply enterprises, government departments and foreign-funded enterprises. Outstanding graduates continue their studies at MIT, UIUC, University of Tokyo and other world-renowned universities around the world.
