From toddler to confidence and calmness

AHMAD FARHADI is from Iran. Five years ago, with a passion for mechanical engineering, he chose Shanghai Jiaotong University, the most ideal university in his mind. The four-year study allowed him to gain professional knowledge, and made him fall in love with China and Shanghai. With the help of the serious teaching of his tutor and  surrounding students, he continued to study academically, and finally obtained the doctorate degree and the title of outstanding graduate. He described the four-year life as the growth of a child, experiencing the initial "toddler", from "brave exploration" to the final "confidence and calmness".

Meet the right teacher, the right mates

Searching through the website, AHMAD FARHADI was very lucky to find a non-traditional processing laboratory consistent with his interests. In this way, he met his mentor, Professor Zhao, who gave him scientific and detailed guidance in the subsequent scientific research life,and taught him see problems with a broader vision. At the same time, he frequently communicated with the teacher, when encountering some problems, and actively learned various experimental skills，which made him affirmed by his tutor. Certainly, the students around him also gave him a lot of support and encouragement to help him overcome the differences when he just came to China. AHMAD FARHADI also took the initiative to join others' activities and tried his best to understand Chinese culture.

Study in China, live in China

When AHMAD FARHADI first entered the Shanghai Jiaotong University, he spent most of his time with international students while also trying other ways to learn about China, such as sending invitations to other students on his LinkedIn homepage. During the second year, he began to explore Shanghai. Whether it was Shanghai residents or foreign tourists, he enthusiastically talked with them and ate with them, so as to experience the different cultures of Shanghai, Also he went to Beijing, Xiamen and some other surrounding areas. The experience made him appreciate the different customs and customs of China. After getting acquainted with Shanghai, he became very familiar with subway routes, especially the landmarks along the road when he returned to the Minhang campus. Naturally, he spent more time admiring the splendid urban scenery of Shanghai, although there are restrictions on the timetable for international students. Although he had not mastered Mandarin well,  he has developed a strong feeling for the city of Shanghai.

Work hard, play hard

AHMAD FARHADI is also a professional Taekwondo athlete with a black belt and obtained a master's degree certificate from the Korea World Taekwondo Academy. During his PHD study ,he obtained an international referee certificate from the Wuxi World Taekwondo Federation in China. This made his extracurricular life very colorful. It is worth mentioned that he opened a course in school to teach students to improve their skills. At the same time, he also performed weekly sports tournaments for Iranian students, planed football schedules and other cultural and sports activities, For he unanimously believes in "work hard, play hard".

Seriously research and achieve self-transcendence

Fortunately, AHMAD FARHADI applied for a scholarship from the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC-A1), which made him have no worries about his study and life. His PhD subject is a novel field, and there are not many references to learn. Therefore, he conducted a more in-depth analysis,and tried many methods to explore the mechanism behind it, and introduced his own ideas for innovation. During this period, he used the finite element module in the COMSOL Multiphysics software to simulate the fluid flow and debris removal in the gap. In addition, he also used Matlab to simulate the process mechanism, and finally a number of results were published in core journals. In the end, he won the honor of an outstanding graduate of Shanghai Jiaotong University, marking a perfect end to his PhD life.
