On November 7, SJTU signed a strategic cooperation agreement with PwC at the 4th China International Import Expo. The signing ceremony was attended by Lin Zhongqin, President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, also academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Huang Zhen, President of Carbon Neutrality Development Research Institute of SJTU, also Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Huang Jia, managing partner of Shanghai, PwC; and Zhang Lijun, managing partner of China economy, PwC.

Green economy and social equality have been a focus of the recent Five-Year Plan and government work. Huang Jia said that PwC has been actively contributing to sustainable development and promises to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030 as one of the first batch of companies to do so. It wishes to cooperate with Shanghai Jiao Tong University to help companies improve competence and innovation capacity and create more mutual-beneficial opportunities for the companies, environment and society.

Huang Zhen said that Shanghai Jiao Tong University has been fully supporting energy technology innovation in recent years, proactively facilitating the R&D and application of low carbon, zero carbon and negative carbon technologies, having made breakthroughs in such fields as renewable energy power generation, new energy storage systems, new power systems and renewable fuels, and having accumulated rich research findings in carbon footprint, carbon accounting, carbon neutralization pathways, carbon finance and carbon market. Huang hoped that, with this agreement as the starting point, SJTU would join hands with PwC to fulfill the double carbon strategy, achieve mutual beneficial objectives, and inject strong impetus for the realization of green development as well as carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.

According to the agreement, the two parties will work together in think tank, government project support, company consulting programs, personnel training and innovative enterprise incubation, expanding the width of continuous contributions to green development as well as carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
