Shanghai Jiao Tong University & Osaka University Joint Forum on Smart City

On October 20th, 2018, the 2nd SJTU-OU Forum on Smart City was held in the School of Mechanical Engineering. Shigemi Takada (Director of Osaka City Planning Bureau), Genta Kawahara (Executive Vice President, Osaka University), Kenji Doi (Professor from OU Graduate School of Engineering), Qiu Wei (Director, Information Office, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information), Chaohui Du (Dean, SJTU School of Mechanical Engineering), Yanjun Dai (Professor from SJTU School of Mechanical Engineering) and other scholars from both universities attended the forum.

Ms. Shigemi Takada and Ms. Qiu Wei introduced the current progress and future plans for smart city building at Osaka and Shanghai, respectively. Dean Du reviewed the historical and fruitful cooperation between the two universities and pointed out that this forum would lay an even more solid foundation for higher-level bilateral cooperation. He also expressed the vision to further joint research and exchange of faculty and students in all possible fields.

11 presentations on smart data, smart energy, smart transport, smart campus were made on the forum. After presentation, experts, scholars and students organized a discussion on the latest research achievements and their trend in specific fields.

Osaka University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University have been holding joint academic seminars for over 20 years, and both sides will focus more on promoting exchange with each other strategically. In the future, we will continue to hold these academic exchange seminars while developing academic exchange in the field of Smart City research.
