If you are from a partner university tuition fees are waived. If you are a degree seeking student you may apply for a scholarship from the CSC (China Scholarship Council). Applications MUST be made as early as possible and no later than the end of March. Please contact the ME International Office for details
If you are a Double Degree student the CSC application must be made via the Chinese Embassy in your country

Transport. Regular SJTU shuttle buses go from Minhang campus to the Xuhui campus downtown. Cost 4 RMB

No. There are Master and PhD courses in English and for your research there is no need for Chinese. However, you are encouraged to learn Chinese to fully appreciate your time in China.
Yes you can take Chinese lessons. The School of International Education organizes courses on the downtown Xuhui campus. Unless specifically included in the agreement with your university, you must pay a fee for the courses.
However, you should prioritize your main subject during the exchange term. To avoid timetable clashes between the main subject course and the Chinese language course, exchange students should first obtain their main subject course timetable from the school (or college), and choose Chinese language course (at most eight lecture hours per week, RMB3200 for one semester) in SIE accordingly.
